Choosing A Credit Repair Counselor
Deciding to hire a credit repair counselor can be the first steps towards rebuilding your credit. Here is what to look for when it comes to choosing a credit repair counselor.
- Make sure that the agency and/or counselor has been in business for at least ten years
- They should be accredited the COA or Counsel On Accreditation, and certified by an independent organization.
- The counselor or agency should be non-profit
- If you cannot afford their fees, the credit repair counselor should be willing to waive them
- Your credit repair counselor should take the time to work with you to come up with an individual credit repair plan that fits your needs. Be wary of cookie cutter solutions to what can often be complex problems.
Remember, your credit score is one of the most important numbers. It can determine your ability to obtain loans, rent apartments, and more. Don’t settle for a credit counselor who doesn’t take the time to make you feel like they have your best interests in mind.
